Solid Shampoo – Spring and Vine
I love when niche items become normal. Solid shampoo bars used to be few and far between but over the last couple of years, they’ve grown in popularity. I recently discovered a new brand called Spring & Vine and their products are available in Target. Until now, I’d never seen a shampoo bar in a grocery store, just specialty health and beauty shops.
Spring and Vine is a clean, vegan and cruelty-free beauty brand. Their shampoo bars are made from shea butter and essential oils. I’ve been using their shampoo for a couple of weeks. Currently, I’m using their 2-in-1 Moisturising Oatmeal bar. I’m always suspicious of 2-in-1 products as I feel that you need to compromise on both elements. The first time I used this bar, I forgot to bring some conditioner into the shower and I was impressed with how soft my hair felt after afterward. I don’t need to use a conditioner with his bar.
How Do You Use Solid Shampoo?
Lather the bar in your hands for ~10 seconds. Work the lather into your hair like you would liquid shampoo. Sometimes I run the bar down the length of my hair but I wouldn’t recommend trying to rub the bar against your scalp. You’ll notice that the solid shampoo doesn’t create as much lather as a regular shampoo does but you don’t need lather to clean your hair.
Three Fun Facts About Solid Shampoo Bars
- Shampoo bars are more eco-friendly because ~80% of the contents of shampoo bottles are water.
- Shampoo bars are great for travel.
- Shampoo bars have a lower carbon footprint than liquid bottles as they require less space during transportation and weigh less.
Overall – it’s a great product to use and incorporate into your normal, everyday routine. My one critique of the product is the use of plastic outer-wrap; I understand that Spring & Vine are identifying alternatives.
Spring & Vine currently has four different shampoo bars to try:
Volumizing – Grapefruit & Rosemary
Moisturising 2-in-1– Oatmeal
Scalp Soothing – Tea Tree & Mint
Balanced Clean – Lavender & Orange Blossom
I’m going to give their volumizing shampoo bar a try next and plan to give the Scalp Soothing one to my mum. So far I’ve got my mum, sister, and sister-in-law into solid shampoo. To check out Spring and Vine, click here.

Endless positives for using solid shampoo! I came can definitely vouch for out easy they are to travel with- you don’t have to separate them into a liquid bag and they’re so much smaller and lighter 🙂 And of course, best of all they’re more eco. I like the sound of the Oatmeal 2-in-1!
Pretty much! Yes – I packed them during my trip to England over the summer and it was nice to know they wouldn’t leak like liquid shampoo! So far, the Oatmeal is my favourite 🙂
